Biographical details
Anthony Haynes was born in Derby in 1964. He was educated at John Port School, Etwall, and then at the University of Exeter,
where he obtained a first class honours degree (BSc) in Chemistry in 1986.
He then moved to the University of Nottingham to complete a PhD in 1989 under the supervision of Profs Jim Turner and Martyn Poliakoff,
studying reactive intermediates in organometallic photochemistry using matrix isolation and flash photolysis.
In 1990 he moved to the University of Sheffield to carry out postdoctoral research
with Prof Peter Maitlis, studying the mechanisms of rhodium catalysed carbonylation reactions.
In 1993 he was appointed BP Chemicals Lecturer in Homogeneous Catalysis in Sheffield and is now Reader in Inorganic Chemistry.
